If you've been an Android user and have had geeky friends, you're sure to have heard of custom ROMs. Now, what are these? These are basically modded versions of Android OS. To have a custom ROM ported to your device you need a rooted phone. It unlocks endless possibilities of the phone. Wrong process may brick the device, hence, better to be extremely cautious. Also, it will void warranty.
Here is a list of my take on the top 5 custom ROMs ever made for Android!
1. CyanogenMod
Of course, this ROM had to feature. Endless possibilities all unlocked in your hands. This mod happens to be the best custom ROM ever made. It's depth of settings and numerous personalization options make it a favorite among many users. And the best part is that it is quite stable. It has a plethora of unique features like customizing the status bar, drawer, etc.
2. Resurrection Remix
This ROM is clean looking, stable and regularly updated. Resurrection Remix allows many customization options to users. The pitch dark theme is a favorite for many users. The clean smooth UI aids to it's popularity. RR is for people who like to customize every element of the UI. It is supported on many Android devices and is constantly developing.
3. MIUI
Next in line is MIUI - a unique UI developed by smartphone-giant Xiaomi. It aims at a stability mostly. Looks are quite similar to that of iOs. Flawless user experience, numerous customization options and regular updates cater to it's popularity among users. It has interesting features such as child mode, blacklist, etc. MIUI offers a range of themes which a user can choose from. It is not as popular as CyanogenMod or paranoid Android but adds a power packed UI with many customization options. You could flash this ROM if you're really bored of the stock Android experience.
